Crime and Violence Statistics:
General Crime Statistics

For general crime statistics, please visit:

The Statistics Canada web site has an overview of national, provincial and metropolitan area crime trends:
http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/020717/d020717b.htm

Also, take a look at the Justice section of the Statistics Canada web site at:
http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/justic.htm

Another good on-line source for Canadian crime statistics is the National Crime Prevention Council:
http://www.crime-prevention.org

(Of particular interest is the "publications section" e.g. Features a "Picture of Crime in Canada" with statistics on violent crime, property crime, youth crime, and victimization.)

For quick intercity comparisons use the Homefair Crime Index calculator. (http://www.homefair.com/homefair/calc/crime.html) Its Relocation Crime Lab Index gives a city's crime rate relative to the national average of all the cities in the database. It also provides annual crime rates per 100,000 people for Robberies, Rapes, Homicides, Aggravated Assaults, and Motor Vehicle Thefts.

The United Nations InfoNation resource has homocide statistics for each country at:
http://www.un.org/Pubs/CyberSchoolBus/infonation/e_infonation.htm

Data on organized crime is available in the Annual Report on Organized Crime in Canada, produced by the Criminal Intelligence Service of Canada:
http://www.cisc.gc.ca/WebPage/index_b.htm

Finally look at the Corrections Canada web site, under "Research":
